Manila hosts a 'Green Carpet' screening of the Climate Documentary This Change Everything

Ahead of the much-anticipated Paris climate talks set for December, environmental group Greenpace Philippines, together with DAKILA, Ako Bicol, Aksyon Klima, Philippines Alliance of Human Rights Activists (PAHRA), and Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement (PRRM) hosted the 'Green Carpet' screening of the climate documentary This Changes Everything.

The film is a labor of love by the husband and wife team of filmaker Avi Lewis and his social activist wife Naomi Klein, acclaimed author of No Logo and This Changes Everything - both international best-sellers that look at how consumersm and global capitalism have made an impact on the environment, changing the world as we know it. The film was shot in over 211 shooting days in 9 countries, over the course of four years.

Nariyan din sina Bishop Broderick Pabillo, Congressman Rodel Batocabe, dignitaries from the Dutch Embassy, award-winning documentarist Ditsi Carolino, celebrated film maker Jerrold tarog, musician Dong Abay and actress/blogger Saab Magalona.

Sa bandang hapon bago lumubog ang araw ang special tribute was also given to the Philippine Climate Walkers who bravely traveled from Manila to Tacloban on foot to raise awareness on climate change in 2014. Ang grupo na ito ay pangungunahan nang dating climate negotiator at ang world governments attending the UN climate negotiations to take climate action in behalf of vulnerable countries like the Philippines.

Ayon kay Anna Abad na isang Climate Justiice Campaigner for Greenpeace Philippines, "This documentary film aims to raise awareness and show the real struggles being faced by people all over the world on climate change. It also presents an oppurtunity to bring people from various sectors together, beacause in the finalanalysis, it is people that can change the world,".Aniya, "The fight against climate change and the fight for the protection of human rights are two sides of the same coin. This is our time to be involved in the greatest battle of our time."

On Tuesday, 22 September, typhoon victims, climate advocates and NGOs filled the world's first ever Climate Change and Human Rights complaint at the commission on Human Rights. Ipinag-pakiusap ito na mabigyan ng malinaw na imbistigasyon lalo na ang mga 50 dambuhalang nangungunang kumpanya ang investor-owned fossil fuel' culpability for fueling catastrophic climate change, resulting to human rights violations.
