DOST-CALABARZON and DOST-SEI bring DOST Courseware to more than 2k CALABARZON teachers as aid in teaching in the new normal

As part of the upcoming National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration, DOST-CALABARZON partnered with DOST-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) to introduce the DOST Courseware to 2,581 science and math teachers in CALABARZON through a webinar series last September 14, 17, and 18.

 

Ms. Josephine Feliciano, Science Research Specialist II of DOST-SEI and Project Leader of DOST Courseware, discussed about the project overview and its platforms, how to avail, how to maximize its use, and some researches about it. DOST Courseware is a free, all-original Filipino-developed, interactive educational software intended for teaching or self-learning of teachers and students. It also supports the improvement of science and mathematics education in the country. It has a total of 413 lessons covering Grade 1-8 Science and Mathematics modules which support the DepEd basic education curriculum.

In his opening remarks, DOST-CALABARZON Regional Director Alexander R. Madrigal encouraged the teachers to include this as part of their teaching materials. He added that DOST Courseware has been proven effective already as one of resource tools in education. With the COVID-19 pandemic hindering face-to-face classes, DOST Courseware can help the students and teachers to engage in a fun and interactive way of learning in the comfort of their homes.

 

The 3-day webinar catered most participants coming from the Division of Batangas and Batangas City while others are from Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Quezon. Last April 26 to June 21, the same webinar was given to 3,121 teachers from Laguna, Biñan City, Calamba, and Lipa.

 

DOST-CALABARZON and DOST-SEI hope that through this awareness webinar series, there will be an increase in adoption and usage of this application to complement in the current blended learning setup being implemented in various public and private schools.
